Our Story
Mama Canela is a family-owned restaurant born from Javier and Paloma Ramos’s shared love of food, hospitality, and bringing people together. Javier has always been happiest cooking for others and welcoming guests around the table, while Paloma grew up in the restaurant industry alongside her parents, who owned Mexican restaurants. Together, they followed that familiar path while creating something distinctly their own: a warm, lively Tex-Mex restaurant rooted in the flavors and traditions of Texas and Guadalajara, Jalisco. The menu features recipes thoughtfully developed and perfected over the years, blending bold Texas flavors with the Mexican traditions that have always been part of their lives.
The name Mama Canela comes from one of the most cherished parts of Paloma’s childhood. Some of her happiest memories were made during summers spent visiting her beloved grandmother and family in Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, where there was a special horse she could hardly wait to see each year, Canela. That horse became a beautiful and lasting part of her childhood memories. To Paloma, horses have always carried a deep sense of family, familiarity, and home—and the name Mama Canela honors that connection. Every detail of the restaurant, from the food and atmosphere to the way each guest is welcomed, was created to share that same warmth and sense of belonging with the Glendora community.
